Using the still life as my subject, I will demonstrate step by step how to begin with a burnt umber underpainting, move through the grisaille and finish with opaque and transparent color. The demonstration will be divided into three sessions, with time for questions and individual advice. I am pre-recording the demonstration so I can discuss the process during the video, and answer questions during short intervals. Discussion topics include materials, techniques, composition, use of color. Before the first session, students will receive simple instructions via email on how to set up a still life so they can practice the concepts and techniques at home. The following two weeks will include time for sharing and discussing student work online. Students who would rather keep it private can email me their work and I will respond with written advice. Returnees are welcome!
